Frequent and persistent communication - annoying or effective?

Quick story time...

Recently, I signed up to receive communications from a new workout studio opening up near my house.

Their marketing was top-notch. 🔥 Can I share?

When I met the owner, she gave me a free water bottle

She sent me 14 texts (I never responded 🫣)

She called me 4 times (I never picked up)

She left 2 voicemails (I never called back)

I saw countless online ads

I received 6 emails

I saw their poster up at a coffee place I frequent

I happened to drive by the location at least a dozen times

Finally, two months later, I signed up. And I'm loving it!

Can you imagine how the manager felt - texting and calling me over two months?! She probably thought she was annoying me.

She wasn't!

It wasn't that I didn't want to sign up. Clearly! I gave her my email and phone number!

Rather, it took that long for the conscious thought {Oh yeah, I need to sign up for that} to make its way to the top of my very busy mind.

If you pay close attention, you do this too!

Moral of the story: The next time you run a big event, think about increasing the frequency and persistence of your communication.

⚡ TO BE CLEAR: None of the messages I received from this studio were exclusively about signing up. They offered me value: Here's a discount code for your first month, here's a bio about each instructor, here's the class schedule, here's a tour of the studio... ⚡

Offer value in every message and you'll never annoy people.

What do YOU think? I'd love to hear! Email back anytime. ✉️

A HUGE thank-you to those of you who filled out my Google Forms survey. It's not too late! Give me your input here.

I'll be selecting a few people who complete the survey for the Google My Business page audit this week.

Until next Friday!

If I know anything about you... ...you're coming leadership conference in a little over a week. 📌📌📌 Pin this email to the top of your inbox so it's handy when you're ready to jot down your goals over a little Chicago cocktail. 📌📌📌 Not coming to Leadership Conference? We'll miss you! I think you'll still like this, though, so keep reading... Back in 2023, I was impressed by the number of actionable tools and tactics shared in just the five breakouts I attended at Leadership Conference. That's...

You don't have a system if it's not written down. Let's start 2026 strong with a clear direction and system for communicating online and in print! Take 45 minutes to sit down with my new Brand Direction template. This is NOT just a brand guide: there may be some sections you aren't expecting 👀 I created a one-page template for you to use as you refresh your approach in the new year. It's similar to my old brand guide with a few new (and critical) sections added. Click here to make a copy on...

I've been putting in hours on this tool over the past few weeks. As a part of this project, I've visited a. lot. of church websites. Unless I can figure out how to automate this process, I'll be getting around to all 1,200. Maybe yours is next 👀 I've noticed: many, if not most, of the websites I've visited are relatively empty. There is usually a homepage with less than 25 words of basic info, a single sentence or graphic for an upcoming special event, and a Contact page. I don't fault anyone...
